Screen-free games for rainy days and quiet afternoons.
Tie a string between two chairs (or just agree on an imaginary line) and keep a balloon off the floor, volleyball-style. Screen-free, low-mess, and works in almost any indoor space.
Play music and dance until it stops — then freeze in place until the music starts again. Simple, high-energy, and works for a wide range of ages, from toddlers to older kids being silly.
Line up plastic cups or empty water bottles and roll a soft ball to knock them down. Reset and keep score, or just enjoy the crash.
The classic listening game — only follow instructions that start with "Simon says." A fun, low-prep way to practice listening and following directions.
Build a blanket-and-pillow fort together, then use it as a cozy reading spot for that day's story time. The building is half the fun; the reading nook is the reward.
Nature walks, scavenger hunts, backyard fun, and active play.
Build a simple course using household items — hula hoops to jump through, cones or chairs to weave around, a jump rope laid out as a balance line. Time each other, or just enjoy running it together.
Before heading out, make a simple "find these" list — a red leaf, something round, a bird, a bug, a pinecone. A lighter, quicker alternative to a full scavenger hunt for a short walk.
Draw a hopscotch grid, a chalk target for a beanbag toss, or just let everyone loose with free chalk art on the driveway. Low-cost and endlessly replayable until it rains.
Bring a small notebook outside and see what you can spot — bugs, birds, interesting leaves. Sketch or jot down what you find; no expertise required, just curiosity.
Partners toss a water balloon back and forth, taking one step back after each successful catch. See how far apart you can get before it splashes. A warm-weather classic.
Simple games that bring everyone together while building teamwork and confidence.
Five movement-and-trivia scavenger hunt scripts for two teams. Print or read aloud — each hunt ends with a phrase for players to piece together. Hunt titles are kept theme-only so the final phrase stays a surprise!

Simple, low-prep activities built for teamwork, trust, and connection — no scoring, no winners, just everyone doing something together.
What you need: Nothing but each other.
Sit in a circle. Going one direction, each person says one genuine compliment to the person on their left — something they appreciate, admire, or noticed recently. Keep going around a few times so everyone gives and receives more than once.
Why it works: A simple way to build warmth and make sure everyone feels seen, especially good as a wind-down activity before bed or after a busy day.
What you need: A blindfold (or closed eyes), a few soft obstacles (pillows, chairs, cushions).
Set up a simple, safe obstacle course. One family member is blindfolded; a partner guides them through using only verbal directions — no touching or steering. Switch roles so everyone gets a turn being guided and being the guide.
Why it works: Builds trust and communication skills, and shows how it feels to rely on someone else's words completely.
What you need: At least 4 people, standing in a circle.
Everyone reaches across the circle and grabs two different people's hands (not the people directly next to them). Without letting go, the group works together to untangle itself back into a single circle.
Why it works: A classic teamwork puzzle — there's no way to solve it without communicating and problem-solving as a group.
What you need: Paper, pens, a jar or small box.
Everyone writes or draws one hope, prediction, or memory from this year on a slip of paper. Fold them up, seal them in the jar or box together, and pick a future date (a birthday, New Year's, next summer) to open it as a family.
Why it works: Creates a shared moment now and something to look forward to later — a nice bridge between today's family time and a future one.
What you need: Nothing but each other.
Without speaking at all, the family must line up in order — by height, by birthday month, or by shoe size — using only gestures and pointing. No talking, no whispering, no writing.
Why it works: Great for mixed ages, including younger kids who can't read or write yet, since it relies entirely on non-verbal teamwork.
What you need: Nothing but imagination.
One person starts a story with a single sentence. Going around the group, each person adds exactly one more sentence, building the story together for at least 3 full rounds. Let it get as silly or unexpected as it wants to.
Why it works: No prep, no materials, endlessly replayable, and always ends somewhere nobody expected.
